Yet again I am asking for help.
Does anyone know if we will lose everything if we try to retune our FreeSat? Only we have lost CBS Action and now Channel 5 since they changed the name again. Kind man from John Jailler came to look but was concerned that we would indeed lose all programmes if he retuned. We actually bought it from the place in Castle Street which I believe is now defunct so cannot ask them.

You need to retune it Diana. It all changed when 5 added their extra channels. If you're not sure give me a bell on 205411 and I'll talk you through it. Dead easy. Don't pay anyone to do it. The same will apply to Freeview in June. You will all have to re-tune.

Good on you Terry. I found the site and the info, but still it may need a little reassuring backup...

If it was L&Y Satellites then the shop has moved to Snargate Street. If the number you may have is not in operation then I can find out what it is and let you know.
As Terry says above, there's no need to pay for the re-tuning information you need but it'd be interesting to see what their after-sales customer service is like.

Do tell mummy to cheer up, help is on the way.
I have an ordinary TV, a set-top-box and (sigh) an indoor aerial. [and I would get better reception at a Tory fund-raising rally than I get from this set up]
Nevertheless. Once the box is tuned-in it is a simple task to delete all that I don't want, I sometimes miss a few basic channels whilst retuning, but 'gay-rabbit' and others like it always seem to be there. I just try again.
If only mummy had loving offspring who could do the needful....
The ONLY good thing to come out of all this plethora are the channel+1 channels. Coupled with the slightly less helpful 'opportunities to view again' this often means I have to fall back on the internet in order not to get word perfect, but I soldier-on.

For Keith and anyone else who needs it the BBCs Switchover Help Scheme number is 0800 40 85 913
I am entitled to the following for £40 if I need it..........
A new easy to use digital box
Home delivery and installation by a security checked installer
An aerial check and replacement if needed, where we can and a 12-month aftercare service and freephone helpline...........
Not sure if this is the standard over 65s letter or because I am registered disabled.
As I also have an indoor aerial and can not pick up BBC in the kitchen at the back of the house I might take advantage of the aerial check. The family have said they will sort that out but I am still waiting since getting my new TV just after Christmas

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Get baking Jan. That has probably worked before in getting the 'children' to pay heed to your need.

Keith,
Providing your Mum's tv has got a scart socket then a competent chap like you can do it yourself for less than £20, dead easy. Here's an example but I'm sure there's loads in places like Argos or Tesco -

That's always assuming the aerial is OK of course, but I think once the old analogue signal is switched off then the digital signal will improve.

While I applaud the optimism of your last paragraph Ray, I do not share it.
This whole switch-over things smacks, to me, like another band-width sale-a-thon as with the 3-G phones. What benefits there are to be for the 'customer', other than greater opportunities to view cheaper and cheaper advertising, are ill defined.

I get a newsletter from Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert web site. Today, amongst other things, he offers this...
"Do a five-minute benefit check-up. Benefits and tax credits aren't solely for the unemployed, the web stretches much wider than you think, usually up to families with a sub-£40,000 income (higher for those with specific needs, eg, disabilities). We've a special, detailed Benefits Check-up Tool that asks a range of questions, then lists what you're entitled to. Payouts will change in April, but being up and running now helps."
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/benefits-check
As we know there are many people who do not claim what they are entitled to, but those with five minutes to spare [and may hear the wolves at the door] can (I hope) with this tool get some idea of the sums involved.

Thanks Terry. I will get up the courage and ring you - a) I'm rather shy and b) I am kiss of death to anything that smacks of technology and im-indoors is even worse which is why I have to sort it!!
Sorry, thanks to others about advice FreeSat installers. Sadly I cannot remember their name and as far as I remember there was no after service.
