They're all as bad as each other, Howard. Last week the tabloids were full of the rent scams going on with our elected good and great. It's institutional freeloading as far as I can see: like the guttersnipe press, they need legislating against.
True friends stab you in the front.

Our former MP, David Shaw, set up a charitable trust into which he paid fees such as these and tv appearance fees, to the benefit of Dover schools. Schools are still benefiting from this 15 years later.
Damian Collins would be well advised to do something similar to David.
It is a bit hard though describing him as a freeloader though, he was paid for making a speech and not for doing nothing. Plenty of people earn a living this way.

Do I detect a touch of sour grapes from our local press, I thought most MPs received occasional extra income from various sources of one kind or another.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

It is a little counterproductive to itemise the least thing while complaining of someone doing the same with his expenses. An MP getting a seat at a sporting event is no more than common curtesy. On the other hand is this chap invited to speak because he is an MP?
I like the idea mentioned by Barry, of someone who, through the nature of his position, earns bunce donates it to a worthy local cause. I suppose the the choice of where to donate the money is down to personal preference, but the air show?
[Is this all schools in Kent Barry?]
