Had this from DDC:
"As a special seasonal boost for communities, and following a range of celebrations over a very special year, Dover District Council is offering free parking on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 December in all DDC owned car parks across the district. This offer does not include on-street Pay & Display areas.
This may not apply to certain car parks managed by DDC but owned by others, as these businesses may wish for the usual turnover of vehicles for trading reasons. Notices will be placed in car parks informing users whether or not fees will be charged. Both Sainsbury's and the Co-op supermarkets in Deal have already stated that they will not be offering free parking on these two days.
Car parks not forming part of the scheme, road markings such as double yellow lines, and on-street parking areas will be enforced as usual.
Cllr Nigel Collor, DDC Cabinet Member for Access and Property Management said: "We are offering our communities a weekend of free parking in our car parks to provide a seasonal boost following an incredible year of celebrations, which included the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Torch Relay.
"In these difficult economic times, DDC is looking at its finances, like all businesses, but is offering free parking in certain areas as a one-off goodwill gesture. I would ask traders to join in the spirit of this offer by parking where they usually do and letting potential customers use Town Centre car parks, and some traders may like to tie this in with their own promotions. We look forward to continuing to work together with all partners as we continue to drive forward for a happy and successful new year."
Hope not too many people will have bought their Christmas presents by next week-end; I'm sure that this week-end would have helped too, but well done DDC.
Hope it helps - maybe next Tuesday would have helped encourage people to the market.

"one-off goodwill gesture"
Very big of them.
What, with something that happens every fifty years (more likely; never again) coinciding with something that happens every four years (more likely; never again) and it being Christmas, for two of the last three shopping days parking will be free...here and there.
I'm sure Scrooge let his staff off early on Christmas Eve even before the spirits took him.
I hope you are, each and all, suitably grateful.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

DDC do this each year at the request of traders. This year no such request was made. It is usually at a w/e identified by traders. Having not had this request , this decision is an opportunity for the public to shop locally & also take advantage of the half price car parking for Dover market on Tuesday.

Well done Watty, for the mention of half-price parking on Tuesdays;whether this is on-street and/or car parks is probably well known.
