  It was the poet, 'John Donne'* who wrote that "No man is an island", and yet communities throughout this island often act, and feel that they must act, as if it is they alone who must battle against the seeming-injustices of a Government Machine, remote - for all the weasel-words to the contrary - from the cares and wishes of like-minded communities.
