    There's been a bit about this on the TV just recently too. BBC's Click programme covered it and there was something in one of the evening news bulletins. From what I gather, the banks are trying to keep ahead of the fraudsters with better software behind their on-line banking operations. What I did find disturbing was the trend towards bank website hijacking and injection of additional code into their sites to make the user give away additional information that the bank wouldn't ordinarily ask for.

    The problem around email contact from the banks is, for many of us, old hat. But there are many bank customers out there that see an email from their bank and respond to it, though I do wonder what they do about emails from other banks. I get the occasional one or two but they just get ignored and binned.

    One or two banks/building societies will contact their customers by email - but they will not include any links to their sites or request anything from you; they're just passing on information - like your eStatement for the month is ready. It's then up to you to visit their site without further help.
