There has been a lot of discussion about 'fracking' in the area surrounding Dover. So what is it and more importantly what effect if any will it have on Dover.
Fracking is where Chemical-laced water and sand are blasted underground to break apart rock and release gas from shale.Apparently it has caused 2 earthquakes near Blackpool where fracking has ceased until further checks are made.
Here's what the Green Party say
"Dover residents should be very concerned about hydraulic fracking in their area. Hydraulic fracking is a mining operation in which a specially blended liquid is pumped down a well and into a rock formation under pressure high enough to cause the formation to crack open, forming passages through which oil can flow into the wellbore
The process can also be used to obtain shale gas. An earthquake in Lancashire on 31st May has been associated with this practice, and has led to a closure of drilling operations
Fracking can contaminate water with methane and hydrocholoric acid and can even lead to tap water igniting if exposed to a naked flame
Although fracking is permitted in the UK it's already banned in South Africa and the French National Assembly's lower house has voted for a ban
"Kent Green Party has objected to this planning proposal. A complete and permanent ban on hydraulic fracking is essential for public safety. It would also be consistent with the Government's claimed pursuit of reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Objections to planning application KCC/DO/0069/2011 may still be sent to:

Is this really what Dover wants?
