While at the Yacht Club Beer Festival I got speaking with Mark Robson who many of you know.
Mark is now running the newly opened 'Just Reproach' a micropub in King Street in the centre of Deal with many real ales from microbreweries acroos the country especially those in Kent.
Interestingly enough, Roger Marples has an article in the current CAMRA booklet about Mark's pub and according to Roger - East Kent has the highest concentration of micropubs in the world
Micropubs are known for there being no music, no fruit machine or television and mobile phone conversations are forbidden.
Now that real beer is back - next they may bring back darts and shov'halfpenny.
Nigel, look out for the next daddlums session that the local CAMRA run, an ancient form of tabletop ten pin bowling where the 'ball' is thrown from the other side of the room, great fun
Just off there now. A couple of weeks ago I did a micropub tour, going to the Butchers Arms in Herne and the Conqueror in Ramsgate, ending up in th Just Reproach. All wonderful, all with great beer. Although not a micropub it should be noted that Blakes has always had a similar ethos to these great new wave of pubs.
There is a article on page 12 of The Times today (Sunday) featuring these pubs, including the Just Reproach. There is a lovely photo too, showing Mark's daughter in the pub.
Ah have just spotted this thread, glad you were enjoying yourself up there at the Beer Festival Nigel...see the other thread Micropub and the Sunday Times....where Ive just added a picture of Mark from the old days.
