The thoughts of Chairman Keef from the Dover Mercury Facebook page.
Number 68 bus Tonight saw the second round of the fight to keep the bus running. In the first round Stagecoach refused to rip up the 56 day notice to withdraw the bus. This made the community very angry at them. One good thing was that people power in a very high turnout public meeting showed stagecoach and the councils that they would not give up until there voices were heard. The community made it clear of the hardship it would cause should the bus go. At the same meeting members of the community suggested re directing the bus via Belgrave Road, to Westbury Crescent to turn round. All the agencies got together and tonight I.m pleased to be able report that through people power, Stagecoach and the councils have agreed to the 3 month pilot on this new route, and hopefully this can become a permanent route, further once the new route is in operation, we will be looking to have a bus stop at the top of Westbury Crescent. None of this would have happened without the local community coming out to let Stagecoach and the councils know how they felt. And I'm pleased they saw sense. I would like to thank all the people who turned up, those that spoke, and the organisers, I would also like to thank Cllr Gordon Cowan, Cllr Wallace and Cllr Walkden for lobbying for the bus to continue. We will be holding a further public meeting in 3 months time for further updates.
