I can tell you many stories about George, he was a good man, I didn't always know what he was on about, but his heart was always in the right place. RIP George.

I forgot to mention my fondest memory of George. I was driving along Townwall Street one Christmas morning when I spotted George, I asked him if he would like to join our family for Christmas dinner which he did. After a couple of brandies and a couple of hours he asked if I could take him (I hadn't had a drink) as he had to get home as his lady friend was cooking dinner and he didn't want to be late.

Funny you should mention food and George,Ken, when he was Mayor and we were in Zeebrugge after the parade and a 3 hour church service and another parade, in the evening there was a dinner.George was sitting next to the top man from Royal British Legion. As the dinner was put in front of us the man from the British Legion said he was sorry but he had to go to get the ferry and get home. George said that is ok leave his dinner I will eat it, he duly ate his and started on the extra dinner, just as he finished the man from the British Legion came back, he said my car wont start and the breakdown service will be an hour, so I thought I would come back for my dinner. It had disappeared as George had ate it, it was a bit awkward until someone from Zeebrugge managed to get another dinner.

it was a hot weekend when we were there for April, and George kept introducing me as 'his' head of security as I was wearing a suit and sunglasses, I am 5ft 7 tall 10 stone in weight and I was the Chairman of Tourism Twinning and Civic Function. He then thanked all the dignitaries for coming to his party. He made me laugh.RIP George.

John if your going for amusing stories heres another,,,,,,
From a council meeting George gave me a lift down town we turned off into a small side ride, at the top of the road a car blocked the road.
Out jumped George DDC card in hand, said to the driver do you know who I am? pointing to his ddc council card. the guy built like a brick s house got out of the car and said I don't give a fudge who you are lol.
I then got out of the passenger seat to try to get George back in the car, with that a guy in the passenger seat in front got out also built like a brick s house
Luckily I managed to talk George back into his and reverse out of the road lol
