Surprised no one has mentioned the fact he has died .During his life time he held many important roles on both DDC ,as Vice Chairman and DTC as Mayor .I thought he was Mayor twice and .Honorary Freeman. He worked hard for his Community. Served for many years on the committee of The Municipal Charities.

Surprised no one has commented on this thread .Some posts on this forum are just rehashed arguments and at times dribble or hogwash
A few years ago Bob was very well known .I shall always remember working with him .In the Council chamber he sat near Roy Towe a councillor from Deal. Roy was a former Mayor of Deal.

I never met Bob, remember the name and that he was Mayor twice in the 80's. Condolences to his family and friends.

I did not move to the district until 2002 so I never knew him.

I knew him first as a bus driver on my local route then met him more often when I worked as a seasonal conductor in the late 60s, though I never had him as a driver (he was on OMO routes and sometimes coaches). He was always very friendly - I think he was a TGWU rep so dealt with the local management when there were problems. I may not have agreed with his politics but you couldn't help but like him as a person - straight as a die.

Sad news, I first got to know him when I joined the East Kent Bus Company as it was in 1982. He was a senior controller then and was great person to work along side. Yes he had some strong views but he had time to listen and help anyone.

I knew Bob initially as one of my customers when I was a milkman and then as a Labour colleague on both Town and District councils. When I first became a councillor it was Bob who was my mentor and the person I always turned to when I sought advice. It would be wrong to say we always agreed, in fact we didn't always see eye to eye, but my admiration for the way he put his point of view never lessened.
RIP Bob and may your legacy never die.
