Former bakers in market square
- 26 January 2010 19:0238855big sign outside announcing it to be a convenience store, at first i thought it would be selling small cottage style buildings similar to the ones that our two councils are arranging to demolish in a joint initiative.
it appears not, they will be purveying similar commodities to the convenience store nearly opposite.
they must have done their homework and anticipated a summer with market square packed with revellers watching the world cup on the big screen, andy murray winning the mens singles at wimbledon and our cricket team doing alright. - 26 January 2010 19:2738857This must be bad news for the first and original convenience store as its very likely to hit their livelyhood and render them with some economic hardship, which could lead to another shop closure. Its already pretty bleak around Market Sq as is. I just dont think the marketplace could secure two convenience stores right there in Market Sq. Isnt there something in trading law that prevents another store of similar specification opening next store or am I imagining that.
However it is good to see a new business open, I just wish it was something different so that the area there could see a bit of a revival and a bit of variety. One opening one closing is not really good strategic town planning. But that shop has been empty since the time of Noah, so from that aspect its good to see movement.email: dover7@msn.com - 26 January 2010 20:0138858It's all clear now, DDC gave planning permission for a second 'convenience store' to open their doors in Market Square, but something got lost in translation and they closed their own 'conveniences'

the word on the street is that if there is a change of government soon, our barry has volunteered to go round peoples houses and demand it all back.
