Missed the game today but the news on Darryl McMahon is worrying - sounds like he will be on his way either straight away or at the end of the season. For the Crabble non-cognoscenti, McMahon is a very creative midfielder, widely regarded a the best in the league.

I am not sure what to make of our situation. We keep picking up points and stretching our unbeaten run, but without, by all accounts, playing very well. Is it because we are not being pushed? The title is out of reach, while we are comfortably in the play-offs. Is it just good strategic use of resources - not over exerting ourselves now to keep something in the tank so that we pick up performances in the last few games and enter the play-offs on a roll?

Are we getting too functional and workmanlike under Chris Kinnear, with such an emphasis on pragmatism that it has alienated our most talented player?

Getting to the play-offs by grinding out results despite not playing well is one thing, but winning them - and thriving next season in the higher division - is quite another.

I don't think we should underestimate the importance of the weather in the last few games, however. The relentless, butter East wind is not conducive to good, hjgh-tempo football, althouigh there is more to it than simply the cold. Despite that cold, it was great to see over a thousand people there. I will be joining them at the next opportunity, whatever our results in the meantime.
