Following up on Keith Bibby's post, I found that in the Czech republic, after the sixth child, there was a possibility that Romany women could unwittingly be tricked into signing a piece of paper, even thought they couldn't read or write..

    From the Guardian 2005
"Having kept silent for years, Bolvanova and dozens of others have now united to demand an apology and compensation from the Czech government for allowing doctors to sterilise Roma women without their consent."

"Human rights groups have begun to unearth alarming reports that doctors and social workers are still pressuring gypsies to be sterilised..."

"Gypsy society values large families, and infertility is shameful for both women and men. Most victims of forced sterilisation say their partners soon left them for other women."

English society also values large families, which may explain why the Czech and Slovak governments give one-way tickets to England. C'est plus facile
