the capt webb flats u mention are superb.
on your more general point of the folkestone road its .
all about perception
I live close to the folkestone road and up and down it at least 4 times a day.
on the folkestone road you do have a number of different nationalities living on that road, and they do tend to be out and congregate in large numbers on parts of the folkestone road.
IT IS part of the culture which some locals can't accept, but i have never found it intimidating
the folkestone road got a bad name over the years for a number of reasons
1' national tabloids running out of date stories and trying to hype up tensions
2; locals not grasping full stories
3; bad government decisions
4; in correct bad publicity by tv/national and localpapers(one of)
so i would suggest you take a walk with your sons down the folkestone road(with your sons) and then make a deciosion.
i would say it was a good move and your sons may well be getting the wrong information.
but this is a big decision for you to make, and i can only tell you what i see each day, its for you to decide.
k

12:4994327crime wise the area is o.k. even the anti social behaviour would not affect people in the webb's development.
most of the dodgy stuff happens after dark in alleyways, not muggings i hasten to add.

12:5194328Diane a close relative of mine lives there, started out renting a flat over 2 years ago and loved it so much they bought it. Most of the flats are set well back from the road and you would not know where they are once you are in them, and there is a good commuity spirit there. Access to the town is excellent both on foot and by bus (bus stops right outside). I would say you have nothing to worry about and a lot to gain.

you are a bit out of date with blocking of the pavements issue.
multicuturalism has been declared dead by the blues and reds a long while back.

17:5594351I live on the Folkestone Road Diana, a little further up than Webbs, but we don't have a problem.
We moved almost 9 years ago, from another address in Folkestone Road, so we are happy with it.
It had a bad reputation, but that was around 1998/9, but it is quite safe - to walk along and to live on, certainly as safe as any other street and as Claire said, there's a bus-stop outside.
The Priory Forum is a Community Group that covers this area and helps in many ways; we would be very happy to have you attend our meetings.
Welcome to the Maxton, Elmsvale and Priory Ward - a great place to live.

19:3494359It is all in the PR, as has been said. It had a few problems, and like any area has good and bad bits. We live up near Connaught Park and it is a reasonable area but also houses a fair number of dodgy characters like drug dealers and other shady types! In Dover, it is possible to have decent and less than decent bits in the same road, I have found. The flats you are talking about, Diane, have had some lovely reports, and I know a guy who leaves near there who has no problems at all. Enjoy!!

10:0894408Hi Diana.. bit shocked that you are contemplating a move but I think I can understand the reasons why. Good luck anyway with what ever decision you make. According to the posts above those flats seem to be very good.

13:5894431Thank you everybody for those positive comments. I shall show both the kids.I feel a bit easier about the move now. We (that is me and the honorary Harbour Master!) will sorely miss the wonderful views from the ninth floor of the Gateway, but the view can only make up for so much, and this has been a winter where I have felt cold most of the time, not entirely unconnected with all the problems with the heating the Gateway is experiencing (as I write I am snuggled up in a blanket with a hot water bottle as heating off yet again).
I think himself will get used to not monitoring every move that the ferries and yachts make!
Thank you Roger, will contact when settled in.

14:0294435Good luck with the move Diana. Your views really are fabulous, so I can understand a bit of reluctance to leave them, but it is an almighty number of stairs from the lift - my old hips and knees struggled I have to say!!And if it is cold, to boot, then Capn Webbs seems a fair alternative!! Enjoy the increased freedom!

14:1694449Thanks Bern. I will. I can hardly wait to step straight out of the flat onto the carpark and into a car. Also will have a second bedroom and that means I might be able to have Home Dialysis. Yippee!!

hoping from the feedback from many posters that you feel confident on the move.
that's why i suggested you have a walk along the road yourelf before moving
and give you an honest outlook.
no good moving and regretting any move.
as others have said there are many positives of living on the folkestone road
all down t perception.
good luck

Not all in the Garden are rose,s.
Thanks for that Howard! However, die is cast, move is imminent. Quite frankly glad to get out of the Gateway where the heating has been dodgy at best this winter. I have never been so cold in all my life as these last 6 days and that includes 2 days in hospital where the ward, operating theatre and recovery were all freezing!
For some reason, someone in our Block at the Gateway has been having problems with losing loathsome plastic plants (no it wasn't me!) and receiving anonymous letters (not me either) which has resulted in our being presented with a white Christening Bible in our entrance lobby and the exhortation "thou shalt not steal, and thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". Apparently the culprit is known or suspected so why we all have be preached at I do not know.
