  My understanding and belief is that HIV1 and HIV2 came from chimps and Mangabey monkeys respectively, the simian immunodeficiency virus adapted once in it human host, most likely contracted through blood ingestion or infection of open wounds(less likely), or through inter species intercourse(least likely) the virus then adapted/mutated into several strains this then spread through normal human sexual interactions.
  There is of course the conspiracist theory, that i suspect might be what you have heard, that is, that it was created by man to wipe out the black races.
