  However Bern, with self control, there is no reason people should not be able to control their deviant behaviour.
  
  I well remember, in the fourth form at school, one of the other pupils announcing that he was going to give up cigarettes and 'self abuse' for Lent.
  
  After a couple of weeks I asked him how it was going.
