So Keith
Can you explain exactly what it is you are talking about so we know what we are discussing and see if we agree with you?

[Flexible working?]
Perhaps this is why we get nothing done here. We just pop in as and when it pleases us.

He has not explained what he is referring to so we cannot have a discussion. Vic assumes, but the first thing I learned in business is - do not ASSUME because doing so makes a ASS of U and ME.

Flexible working is a good idea for some for others it will be an impossibility because of the job they do. Why should routine paperwork for example not be done at the home desk for instance, much better than spending an hour or so travelling to sit at an office desk doing what could have been done at home.
So long as the work is done when in the day or where does not always matter.

You are correct Jan and what you say is exactly why we need Keith to explain exactly what he refers to.

As far as I can gather the text of Clegg's speech has not yet been released.

Yes - but Keith has not explained his opinion and simply gone off on one. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt here and would like to discuss his specific objections. I have seen good and bad flexible working. This article is not necessarily the whole picture and it depends on what safeguards etc are in place for the employer. Keith may know more and the article after all.

basically it is as well thought out as the ageist one, all that happened was employers had to invite everyone for interview for fear of being accused of breaking the law. just ended up wasting the time of the employera and job applicants who also travel costs.
employers know the age group that is right for the job on offer.

Another area where government should just butt out and let consenting adults make their own arrangements.

The only employers that will bend over to accommodate this is the taxpayers
I believe a large number of liberals are employed in the public sector
