There are some good fish and chip shops in Dover, in recent times I have found Davittos (?) by the paper mill really good. Run by an Irish guy, cooked to order which I think is the measure of a good chippy. The Irish make great fish and chips for some reason, Leo Burdocks in Dublin being a fine example, my Dad still to this day rates this as one of the best he's had.
I used to work in what was Pip's, peeling spuds, it was my first job at 14 and I used to stink. My mum made me shower the second I got home everyday. Good fish and chips, the best made by Janet who still lives round the corner in Dour Street.
In the last year me and Dad have come to the conclusion Middle street is the best around, before that we used to go to the Little chip shop in Sandgate and before that even down to Dungeness to the Pilot, which in recent years has gone downhill!
Martin is right, Middle Street is consistently good. Take away cod and chips £4.50, eat in about £7. It is amazing, family run and always cooked to order. It is well worth a visit although you will find a queue down the street on a friday evening.
