  I've just been to an open day at a local fire station. Massive respect to all the guys (and girls) who do such an amazing job. Yes I had to have a go in a fire engine!

  I believe that 'faire un pompier' has connotations other than playing at firemen in France!

  I hope you weren't tempted to do a spot of pole dancing whilst in there Jeane?
  
  I have a few mates in the local brigades and I sometimes wonder how they can do the job. A friend in North Carolina has two fireman sons, both involved in the 9-11 incident, how he didn't die of worry I'll never know.

  Indeed, they have a hard enough job as it is without the proposed cut backs. One guy I was taking to had been a fireman for over 25 years.

  i do not wish to be pedantic, but you said you spent a long time with those firemen and you couldn't find the pole.
