I'd like to get into contact with any family of Dover Mayor William Henry East who served for a few months from November 1925 to June 1926 before sadly dying in office. We, WHPS, have had some very interesting discoveries recently that I'm sure relatives would love to see. (Not that they have anything to do with the Western Heights for once!)
I'm posting this on the off-chance a member of the East family is looking in, or any forumites know of any contacts.

Thank you Howard - bang on the right place. However, I think the East's no longer own it and it now belongs to the Knights. However, it is a place I intend to try soon.
Hi Phil , completley off topic but it was really nice to see you this evening

Very interesting Kath, that's the family alright - thank you. That'll help put names to faces, if catch my drift (and I'm sure you do).
Emma Smissen and Mabel Bakes are probably the cook and the housemaid.
Hubert was sadly killed in action in Ypres on the 8th May 1915 and was a Captain in the 1st Yorks and Lancs Regt.
Interesting that the house was called '...villas' as it implies the Easts renamed it East Lee with their family name.
I don't want to say too much more at this early juncture, but that is very helpful.

and here is 1901 Census. Maison Dieu Road, 'East Lee'
Wm H. East 51 b. Glos, Brettle Lane Artist and Art School master
Emmie EAST 41 wife b. Yorks Doncaster
Henry EAST 19 b. Kent, Dover
Cecilia EAST 18 ditto
Hubert J. EAST 16 ditto
Dorothy A. EAST 10 ditto
Daisy M. GILL servant 18 general dom. ditto
In the 1891 Census, I think the name (something) villas was maybe for several houses in a row, within Maison Dieu Road, but may be wrong.

Thanks Kath - much appreciated. The family plot with William, Emma, Cecilia, Hubert and infant son Reginald (d.1885) can be found at Charlton Cemetery.
I'll make sure you are copied in when I try to do a 'who's who' later.
