The government having looked at and decided to legislate that children should not be placed over 20 miles away from the area they are in.
Over 200 children from london are placed in thanet.
whilst it's all ok in an emergency, is this the case for all 200?
i suspect not

i suppose it depends on each child, some may be best moved away from areas that they have got into trouble.

Not all children in care have been in trouble, I would have thought most were from broken homes or the parents have medical problems and can not cope. Children should be placed so they can go to the same school and be near their families and friends.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Been going on for decades, kids shifted 100's of miles from where they come from to homes that are privately run.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be stopped. I'm saying it's a disgraceful practice which has been going on for more than 30 years. Thanet has always been a dumping ground. Kids are put in these homes, have no links with the community and are given no opportunity to form those links. What you end up with are angry, isolated children who have had more than enough trauma in their lives and then misery for the people who live near them because they end up in the line of fire.
Too many of the social workers in these homes do not give a shit about how the kids are really feeling and what they need so you also end up with angry, rootless, despondent youths. That was my point, not whether this government should solve it but why they and all those before them have not bothered.

We now have a feature on our frontpage on this very topic...re Laura Sandys MP for Thanet South and her fight/campaign on this issue. She has the ear of the Minister. Hopefully things can move forward now that those in high places are taking a considerable interest. Will lock this on top for the usual time. if anyone feels strongly about it now is a good time to post here and your point will catch the eye of the MP.
Many thanks as ever to Laura for filling us in.

i hadn't realised that children were placed so far away from their homes, must be a frightening ordeal for them.
good luck to laura sandys in tackling this serious issue.

Many of the children will be on the `special needs register`( if it still exists ) Special needs children and their parents have
an enormous task to obtain adequate provision for their needs.
Having served on the KCC Education Speciaql needs committee for several years it was obvious many cases did not receive
adequate provision for their needs.
Some ``Sen``children need to be in special schools but these are being closed.
We had one in St Margerets we campaigned to save due to the high demand but after months of local effort and many
meetings at Couny Hall it was finally closed.
Laura Sandys must be supported in her efforts to improve the lives of our children in need.
