SHOP prices will be forced up in the UK due to a 30 per cent rise in EU tolls on lorries.UK truckers have to pay up to18p for every kilometre they travel within EU countries. Now eurocrats want to increase toll charges for road repairs by 30 per cent to help combat air pollution and noise.
We have to pay tolls when we go to Europe, but their lorry drivers don't when they come here, as well as more in petrol and diesel tax.It will lead to rises in the cost of goods as these costs will be passed on to us ,the consumer.Last year, two and a half million lorries travelled from the UK to Europe

Then we must introduce a level playing field and charge for overseas lorries driving on British roads.
You can bet though that this increase has nothing to do with air-pollution and noise, it's just another way of raising income - as are all greean taxes.

The problem is that if we start levying their trucks as a net importer the costs would only be passed on to the British consumer. This is where the EU could serve some useful purpose and assist those countries that don't charge road tolls with cash from those that do.

My representation to the Secretary of State for Transport proposes the introduction of port-tolls in all British commercial ports.
They are looking into it, and Kent County Council support the measure and are also asking the Government to introduce port tolls on all foreign lorries and on all cars and buses.
My proposal didn't actually make a distinction between foreign and Britisah lorries, though.
However, the increase proposed for lorries, £50, is to minimal to affect the retail prices of transported goods, as the increase would be on average about one quareter of a pence per kilogramme of transported goods.
A port toll would be, to an extent, the equivalent of a road toll. The revenues would be distributed between local councils, including the County, and the national Treasury.
Therefore, in Kent, Dover and the Channel Tunnel would each be increasing their daily revenues by hundreds of thousands of pounds.
DHB are also aware of the proposal, as a copy of the representation went to DHB.
Adding to that, KCC have proposed making sure that foreign lorries do not carry to Britiain a 3 day supply of petrol in "belly-tanks", so that they would be obliged to purchase petrol in Britain, which would bring in further enormous revenues to the State Treasury.
As for the EU, forget it!
