We have just got back from Spain the E.U.card is a must and also we always carry a ins/cover aswell it does not cost alot even for mywife and myself ,we listed all what is wrong with ourself and the cost was only £80 for the both of us, and that covers geting back even if you die over there.

had mine for 7 years, supposed to cover most things and the bill sent to the n.h.s. a bit surprising if some spanish hospitals are refusing to treat.

Spanish govt stated they not aware
it appeared the guy knew his rights
took his boy to another Spanish hospital who accepted the card

sounds to me that some hospitals are trying to pull a fast one, millions of brits visit every year so it would not be new on anybody.

Howard, if you have had yours for seven years check the sell by date, they don't last forever. I had to renew ours a couple of years ago.

didn't make it clear in my wording alec, meant to say i had "a card" for 7 years - onto my second one.

In Bulgaria I have to buy insurance everytime I enter as they totally ignore the validity of my card, come the end of the year I hope our soon to be visitors are also refused our health service facilities unless they pay for it, but I doubt it.
