11:1664763caught an interesting snippet of news this morning.
thanet council are applying for £.550,000 from the above to fund renovation work on some seafront arches.
the money would cover restoration of 14 out of 30 arches, the rental once let out would cover the council's share of funding.
if successful, then work would start on the ones remaining.
food for thought for own administration.

20:4564837thanet have serious problems like all coastal towns, however ramsgate water front is astounding.
brilliant now, will be even better if the work goes ahead, last time i was there was a wet miserable sunday afternoon in november.
the place was humming with activity, wine bars, pubs, cafes etc were run off of their collective feet.

21:2064859The think with this is that is will (and already does, with some demand) give a rental income, so in the long run should could TDC less

23:2964899Thanet had the highest levels of "deprivation" in Kent in the last survey in 2007 (Dover came 5th highest) which might mean it has access to some specific EU funds. I seem to remember this was the basis for the dualling of the Dover-Eastry road and maybe for the ongoing dualling near Cliftonville.

07:0164912My understanding is that Thanet and Dover have the same status now as regards funding, so if they are deserving of any, then we should be too.
We'd still have to apply for it of course.
We (Dover) also have "Growth-point status", which means we should have access to greater funding, but again, we'd still have to apply for it.

07:1864915there lies the rub, will we have someone that knows their way around the necessary form filling?
a lot can be done with half a million quid.

07:2764920We do at DDC Howard, not sure who they are (there's more than one person who knows their way round a funding application form).
They would still need the political instruction/agreement to do so though.

12:3864940You would probably find, Howard, that for every extra ten pounds Britain applied for from e.u. funding, the e.u. would add an extra thirt pounds to Britain,s contributions to e.u. funding! Or shall we say an extra twenty pounds?

13:0664943the point i was trying to make alexander, was that money from europe is sloshing around, some councils and other organisations get it, why shouldn't we?

13:4864947When we are in the right position to do it, it is certainly a source that we will look at for the Western Heights

15:0064952certainly deserving of some funding, was up there an hour ago, the walk from the citadel down to st martins battery is a picture of misery that does not fit in with the beautiful scenery.
weeds sprouting out everywhere and dilapidated out of use buildings.
who owns the former screws social club, they should be brought to task over it?

15:3064954Howard - owned by the new Dover Gateway/Prior Land of the new Farthingloe scheme....
See in the Your Dover that they are also 'supporting' the idea of an Invicta Horse besides the A20 as another lever to persuade the authorities to given them permission......

incidentally the new fast food van up at st martins was doing good business today, seems a fair selection and reasonably priced.

17:3364971Seeing as it is such a major plan, they have little to show on the internet - this is one partner in the project

Good to hear they are doing ok, I dropped them some leaflets this morning whilst they were setting up. I think it is just a trial to see what days are best at the moment, but they are thinking about missing a couple of weekdays and doing the weekend instead.
Think it is just a matter of getting the word out - down about Portsmouth there are a couple of vans that have been thriving for years and always good business !

17:5164980i think that the weekend is their best bet, especially if they carry on through the winter months.
i see no reason that they cannot scratch a living out of it, i have seen coaches pull up and the driver points out the views to the passengers.
they are off of the coach for about 10 minutes so someone will fancy a coke or a bag of crisps.

12:3765123I have just been told that the UK has been fined £150 million for not flying the EU flag enough. With Thannet looking for around £½ million that still gives them a profit of £149.5 million.
Million-to-one chances crop up nine times out of ten.
12 August 2010
12:5865126The real "profit" of course Stewart is much more than that, bearing in mind that whatever the EU kindly "gives" us is basically a small return of our own money initially paid to the EU as "membership" fees!

13:0865132getting back to the flags, i can only assume that a large number of people must be employed to travel round 20 odd countries
counting flags.
it really does beggar belief.
