Just read this.
Pickles wages war on traffic wardens
Eric Pickles, the Communities Secretary, has said that motorists who stop at local shops for 10 minutes should no longer be issued with parking tickets. Mr Pickles said he wants to end the "over-zealous culture of parking enforcement" and called on "officious" wardens to be more lenient in a bid to boost the economy. He has also called on town halls to create more off-street parking spaces to take the pressure off busy roads.

To their credit, DDC already allow 5 minutes grace unless you are in a cab rank or a bus stop.

if a car is parked dangerously then wardens should act, it is a matter for the individual.

there is a excellent lady traffic warden that patrols market square on a regular basis brian, and tickets cars parked in the bays reserved for taxis, just shrugs off any abuse doled out to her.

That's Tracey, she and her ex used to be regular customers at the Yew Tree, she is very fair, unfortunately I saw her giving Steve Davies a ticket outside the White Horse the other day.

not a job i would fancy what with godwins law being thrown about on a daily basis. seems a tad harsh to equate issuing a parking ticket with being responsible for the death of millions.

It should be part of every district councillor's compulsory induction training to spend an entire shift on the job with a civil enforcement officer, in uniform. For that matter they ought do the same for every front-line role. Or perhaps it's candidates for election who should do it. "Vote for me! By the way, here's your PCN."

not much fun for the office staff either, they get the same amount of flak from people that visit the car parking department to pay their fine or kick up a stink.

I think the idea of a 10 minute break is quite fair but in reality if an EO stood by each car for 10 minutes they'd only do one road a day.
I'm sure we've all taken a chance on nipping in to the Doctors to take a prescription, or popped into the Chemist to pick it up etc.
The trouble is that we only get a ticket if we have parked and not paid, or over-stayed our time, but it can and will put people off of doing any business in Town, when really, it shouldn't - we do afterall, have the cheapest parking of any other Kent District.

Well now, having spent two days with traffic wardens it opens your eyes so to speak,
I'v seen them being driven at, cars moving playing cat and mouse, abuse, threats,
plus lots more, all in a days work, not a job i would want.
Let me tell you of one such incident;
Going along Sandgate Road, very busy a van had parked illegally, the traffic warden politely asked the person in passenger seat that he will need to move and why and to inform the driver.
The driver was in a building society and came stomping out)big bloke built like a brick,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, before the warden could say a word the guy threatenngly said, im not moving iv got an appointment in there.
The traffic warden (very polite) said he would have to move or he would give her no option but to give him a ticket
where the bloke replied I dont care)thats the polite version lol)
She had no choice but to put ticket on the van.
Here was an opportunity tohave avoided a ticket, where she was willing to not give a ticket had he moved.
