17:5074085I was reading an article on BBC News yesterday (can't find it now) about the choice of Jerusalem as the anthem for the English team at the Commonwealth Games, which apparently was chosen after an online vote.
I haven't seen any English winning ceremonies yet but apparently it is not proving popular as it's a dreary version and doesn't work without the words. What does anyone else think would be a good choice for English national teams? The Scots have Flower of Scotland so the bar isn't set very high.
Jerusalem
Land of Hope and Glory
I Vow to Thee My Country
Swing Low Sweet Chariot
White Cliffs of Dover
Any other suggestions?

19:0274098Much as I love Jerusalem I would have prefered Land Of Hope And Glory.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

what is a northumbrian warpipe when it is at home?
sounds like a poor relation to the birmingham blowpipe.

19:1874110Alexander, I'm a fan of Kathryn Tickell (Northumbrian pipes light), must be in my genes as my grandad was in the Northumberland Fusiliers in WW1

20:4774137I listen to bagpipes all the time. Even went as far as editting an article on 'bagpipes in the British Isles'.
The ones you like as mentioned above must be the bellows-blown Northumbrian small-pipes. The actual Northumbrian war-pipes are mouth-blown, like the Highlander pipes, and in the 1920's the British Army revived the Northumbrian warpipes in the Northumberland Regiments.
They have two drones, like the Irish warpipes. The Highlanders have three drones.

13:1274217Altho' I belong the WI and therefore sometimes sing Jerusalem, I think Land of Hope and Glory would be an excellent choice, especially with Elgar's roots in E. Kent.

18:2674266Being an athletics fan I have to say when on the rostrum collecting gold medals, the athletes seem bemused by the anthem, which is very long.
