  As a republican, I would be glad to see the back of the royals etc. However one has to recognise that much of what these people receive both from the Civil List and government and EU grants would be sought anyway as it relates to the upkeep of important state properties or the management of rural and farm land or the rural environment. It is disingenuous of the BBC and others to attack these grants without clearly understanding what their use is and who else might be receiving them. The vast majority of the information regarding agricultural and environmental grants is freely available on the internet.
