17:5080303Tonight begins the great Islamic feast of the Sacrifice, Eid al-Adha, when millions of devout Muslims converge on Makkah for the annual Hajj (pilgrimage). In another thread there are mentions of Muslim soldiers who have fought on our side in various conflicts. The vast majority of Muslims living in our country are loyal to the Crown and are law-abiding, and consider the radical minority to be renegades. The vast majority of Muslim peoples outside Western countries also respect us and our customs. Can we not therefore call a halt to the ritual Muslim-bashing that takes place almost daily on this forum and, in a spirit of reconciliation, offer our Muslim citizens a sincere Eid Mubarak.

17:5880305Very PC Peter. Hopefully tonight you will be slaughtering a goat/lamb in Castle Street without pre-stunning?

18:0580310Bring the goat. Railing against other peoples religious dogma is not the way to mutual understanding. It's only fifty years ago we brought in compulsory pre-stunning.

18:1680313i remember my muslim neighbours explaining to me about how they fast during the hours of daylight for a month during ramadan then stuff themselves silly at eid.
i commented that it sounded like a bit of a ramadamadingdong, he just shook his head in disbelief and walked off.

20:0080339When I worked at uni we had on average between 110 and 120 nationalities on campus and nearly as many religions. It was a real job trying to keep up with all the festival and national days on our daily announcements board, but almost without exception all our visitors enjoyed the Christmas festivities as part of their cultural experience and many brought in their own specialities on national days or festivals.
A little bird told me already that Peter's goat curry is very tasty
