I hope nobody was injured, engine room fires can be nasty.

Yes Brian a great deal of fire engine activity...but cant see at the moment any evidence of it being anything major..ie no smoke rising over the Port or anything of that nature. However there are certainly a lot of appliances passing through. Fingers crossed for the best outcome.

yes paul its a boiler that's caused the trouble.the dover express link has updated itself.if you look at the ferry berths you will see a ferry with the odd shaped funnel you will also see white and a small amount of black smoke coming out of the funnel.i think its the Dieppe seaways.

Have had a closer look at the larger version of picture...that is actually the Air Ambulance arriving in Post 7. Several other ambulances have been arriving too. Hope it is a 'just in case needed' situation.

This is bring back a few nasty memories about the fire on the Seafreight Freeway, my husband acting as medical officer dealt with the aftermath.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Jan. Not my ship. The Dieppe Seaways is manned by French crew and is one of the original Superfast ferries. We were berthing on the Dover Seaways this afternoon when the incident happened. Apparently there was a large gout of white flame from a vent beneath the funnel, then there was quite a lot of smoke for half an hour or so. Problem with a boiler, I understand. There were masses of fire engines and other emergency vehicles massing on the docks, and the air ambulance landed on the lorry park. I took a load of photos and shall post some on Sea News in due course, only have a very slow internet link at the moment. Thankfully it sounds like nobody got seriously hurt.

That is a relief Ed, I did have my doubts but wanted to be sure.
According to BBC local news this morning three firemen are in hospital. I hope they suffer no lasting damage be it physical or mental.
