  I used to work with the husband of one of the Eastenders scriptwriters. She also wrote "Day Trip to Bangor"
  
  Actually I shouldn't be too disparaging, she's a lovely lady, it's a great tune that made her a load of money (and I guess still does with royalties) but she said the scriptwrites are hired to write around characters and plotlines that are predetermined by producers and they have to stick to a very rigid set of rules.
