Eastbourne pier is on fire and there is substantial damage to the landward end.

Shocking photos on the link, seems a miracle that there are no casualties.
I'm wondering if there is anyone stuck at the seeward end as the middle part seems totally engulfed in flames.

Such a shame at any time but even worse it should happen at the height of the season.
According to the news it started behind some paneling which makes me wonder whether the electrics are checked as often as they should be.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Do we know who owns the pier bearing in mind that Hastings Pier was owned by an overseas company who had no interest in restoring it.
Interesting exhibition on Britain's piers doing the rounds, Deal included.
