TWO men have been jailed for five years after trying to settle a feud with a pistol duel at 20 paces.
The first, aged 39, shot his 42-year-old opponent in the buttocks as he was walking to his spot. But he shot back, injuring his rival in the chest.
A dog walker found the bloodied pair on a cycle path in Kalmar, Sweden.

Maybe it would be an interesting way for local councillors and politicians to settle their differences, would certainly draw in big crowds, Hey! I feel a business oppportunity coming on

Mmmmm?
It would be a good way of getting rid of one or two people in the crowd too, accidents do happen.
As for contests between local rivals perhaps it would be best for them to be roped together with cudgels in their free hand? Still a crowd pleaser, I'm sure.

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

I think duelling was outlawed in England about the 1830s, here are one or two items:
DUEL:
(under local news Feb 20th) Duel - on Saturday: A meeting took place between Lieu. MINSTERS of the Marines, belonging to HM Ship "Monarch" and Lieut. Christian LASCHEN of the "Latona" frigate, at Queenborough. When the former was shot dead through the head and the latter through the body with very little hopes of his recovery. The marine officer lies dead at an inn in Queenborough for the Coroner's Inquest and the Lieut of the Navy is sent on board the "Spanker" hospital ship at Sheerness. They were attended in this unfortunate business by a Marine officer and a surgeon's mate, as seconds, both of whom had absconded. The parties fought at 12 paces distance and fired at the same instant. Both fell the first shot. The cause of this unfortunate affair originated a few months since when they both belonged to the "Latona" frigate at Elsineur. Some words passed between them when playing at cards which occasioned a blow; but Captain SOTHERN of that ship by his well timed authority prevented the matter going further and may have been promised within his ship there would be quiet, and threatened to bring them both to a Court Martial if they did not keep the peace. - Since the arrival of the "Latona" at the Nore, the marine officer effected a change with an officer in the "Monarch" which was no sooner done than he received and accepted the Navy Lieut's challenge which was attended with the consequences already stated.
