So there I was up on Whinless with the dog when I heard a siren at 14.27.
Any ideas?

I heard that too, I was doing the ironing (I'm a well trained husband!) and managed to get it finished before the four minutes were up!
No idea where it came from but on the Facebook Dover History Forum, it might have been someone who is restoring one and they live in Dover.
I know it was terrifying for those who heard it for real, but it would be good to hear again and be a "living history". I'm not WW2 vintage but I remember being woken up in Herne Bay by my parents and the 4 minute warning siren had gone off in the 70s. I was only about 8ish and found it exciting and very noisy, but my parents were slightly more concerned! I turned out to be a false alarm!

I was out walking up near St Radigunds abbey and never heard a thing but my wife did at home, she was quite concerned by it.I,m sure i have heard it at various times before across the town.

I've solved the mystery.
The guy I mentioned that is restoring a Cold War siren for use at history events responded to the post on the Dover History Forum group on Facebook to apologise and say it was him! He had just finished rewiring it and gave it a run to test it, but was shocked by the range and distances it reached!
He said he videoed the test and it even has his wife running out into the garden and telling him off!

I,ve definatley heard one before in town, maybe 2-3 times in the last couple of years, wonder if some else has one or could it be a factory alarm of some sort, its the same type of sound.

And here was me looking for a bunker, all I could find were the potholes left by the metal detectorists!
