High time for a rethink certainly, but the way things are it does keep the crime figures nice and high. Thank heaven for small mercies, as they say.

i have been in favour of legalising prohibited drugs for many years, more importantly so have many top police persons.
outs the criminals, ensures that substances are not adulterated and would even bring money into the exchequer just like tobacco and alcohol does.

I wonder how those living in Portugal fare when travelling to the USA? One drug conviction equals no visa and problems of this nature have been used here in the UK before to 'correct' this liberal thinking.

it is a vote loser for politicians that is why dave has gone back on his previous beliefs.
rational debate is prohibited on this subject, quite astonished that a country like portugal has given a lead.

keith
at present drug users are prey to people who adulterate their products to maximise profits.
this is one of the main causes of the fatalities which would stop if they were dispensed from pharmacies like normal prescription medicines.
people have used drugs since the beginning of time and that will never change, at present some evil people live in luxury onl;y because they are illegal.

If you think about it it's a mind game really.
Make anything illegal and a lot of people think they are being sneaky by obtaining it, the dealers make bundles by depending on sneaky people.
Make it legal and every one see's you going for it, every one knows you are a loser, less people use it. stop people being sneaky.

as I say it's a mind game.

To an extent, the interesting think about what they did in Portugal was that they not only decriminalised drugs, but at the same time stepped up health and education programmes related to drug use.
