Oops typo there. He should be granted asylum from his own crazy ideas not an asylum. The greens and other people who see energy from carbon as something evil and unholy are fully entitled to hold these ideas as long as it doesn't impact the lives of everybody else. Unfortunately this isn't the case.
Even die hard wind farm fanatics will be shocked and surprised if they knew that their beloved carbon free bird slicers were actually being backed up by a massive array of diesel generators strategically sited up and down the country.
It's the governments answer to putting a sticking plaster on their failure to provide the country with real, proper energy at a cheap price by way of what is known as short term operating reserve - or STOR for short.
Because both labour and the coalition have failed to build any new power plant because of their obsession with saving the planet they realise that things have reached crisis point.
The only way to overcome this situation caused by their own stupidity is to use this method of generation to cover the lack of reserve in the grid. When demand is really high and wind turbines are not turning (most of the time) and the shortage of coal fired power stations which have been taken offline means that the margin is down to less than 2% in the winter or other times of high demand the greenest government ever are happy to provide the shortfall by using diesel generators to fill the gap.
We should all be granted asylum from ourselves for being duped by the government.
