What you have written Jan does not read as the least bit 'right-wing'. Wanting an (more?) effective form punishment is probably something that people all across the political spectrum would have some desire for.
"Tough on crime and criminals" has long been a right-wing slogan, stolen somewhat by T Blair with his, "Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime."
As I see it, the right-wing is all for promoting harsher and harsher punishment irrespective of effectiveness. History may well have taught them that this is attractive to many voters.
