Here is the Celebrity Eclipse going down the channel a few minutes ago....its out there right now as we write, a long way out so picture a bit soft. It is clearly bypassing Dover and heading for Southampton. As the MP for there Caroline Nokes said in Howards link above...we dont want help for one port ( Liverpool) becoming an iceberg for another. Funding going to Liverpool might just simply hit business elsewhere. Dover is already losing out to Southampton as the Celebrity Eclipse pictured used to come here, if I'm remembering correctly. Competition is fierce but thankfully Dover still has a substantial amount of calls scheduled for next year. Not quite up to Southampton though who cater for 720,000 cruise passengers per year.
I wonder if Dover could beat off any further challenges..our Port entrance is small and as we have seen this year a number of times already..the bigger Liners cannot get in here when the weather turns rough. This plays havoc with the schedules.
