Exercise Dover Shield 22 March 2012

Major emergency services exercise at Port of Dover

A major exercise will take place at the Port of Dover on Thursday 22nd March to test a number of Kent's emergency services and agencies in their readiness for a large scale incident.

Organised by the Kent Resilience Forum*, Exercise Dover Shield is one of a number of countrywide exercises required by the Government to examine multi-agency planning and preparation at key sites.

Staff, equipment and specialist vehicles from Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and Kent Fire and Rescue Service will be among those taking part on a site near the Eastern Docks roundabout at the Port.

Other agencies playing a key role in the event, which will run from around 9am to 2pm, include the Port of Dover and Port of Dover Police, UK Border Agency, Kent County Council, Dover District Council, East and West Kent Health, the Health Protection Agency, the Military, ferry operator DFDS and the Environment Agency.

Throughout the exercise, the Port will open for business and operating as normal.

    Notes:
    * The KRF is one of a number of Local Resilience Forums (LRFs) across England set up to align with the local police area. The LRF is not a legal organisation as such, but a partnership made up of a number of organisations and agencies.
The overall aim of the KRF is to ensure that agencies and organisations plan and work together, to ensure a co-ordinated response to emergencies that could have a significant impact on communities in Kent.
