The good thing about a rai link, is that it would provide the basis for freight by rail in the future, without necessarily having to herald a change from road to rail in one week.

With oil prices increasing dramatically, companies might decide to change of their own accord to rail-freight gradually, as it could work out cheaper.

Then there is the carbon-emission part of the context, with rail being an obvious advantage. Of-course a rail link for passengers could be an extra optional, but I doubt it would be high on the agenda of DHB, as the Channel Tunnel already caters for travellers by train with direct high-spped connections to and from Ashford.

Howard, I had almost forgotten about the people's port; now, where was it again?
