I think the point about Nigel and others is that HS1 could pass thru Dover but without passengers because it was unsafe to evacuate thru the Shakespeare Tunnel.

The campaign that finally achieved HS1 taking passengers to and from Dover was the one that got the £8m investment in the Shakespeare Tunnel. I would stress Nigel played a very extensive lobbying role and personally met all the major decision makers in promoting Dover's case. As he still does, losing no opportunity to complain about two stops in Folkestone denying Dover the "Golden Hour" status.

Graham,I remember the Dover Chamber's campaign very well.

Vic , many people were invloved including Gwyn, who used his good offices and influence to arrange meetings with Ministers.
