    Graham Tutthill says...

    Hi Paul

Don't know if you can add a comment onto the "Dover Forum" thread on the members' page of Dover Forum for the benefit of "Terry (somewhat baffled)". Our editor has pointed out that the photo of the high speed train is used because Bob Humphreys refers to it in his article (sixth paragraph from the end).

It might also be interesting to recall that the campaign to get the high speed link to Dover goes back to the 1980s when representatives from the Dover Chamber of Commerce put the town's case at several hearings, including a parliamentary select committee.

As we said in our Comment in the December 17 edition: "The arrival of this new service is the result of a lot of hard work and lobbying not just in recent years, but going back to the 1980s when the Channel Tunnel rail link was first being proposed. Dover Chamber of Commerce officials were among those who fought vociferously for the town to benefit from the new rail link, sometimes appearing to be a lone voice and almost ridiculed by others who thought there was no chance of it happening. Now it's here, and while those who have campaigned more recently are due some of the credit, we would not forget those who went before."

    Thanks

    Graham.
