As a regular reader of newspapers, I don't see what the problem is. Very often people are quoted for what they say in newspapers or on website forums. It's not as if you didn't say it. The article you refer to does go on to quote other people and to say that the comments were made on the forum. As far as I can see it works around the other way too. Threads on the forum sometimes originate from stories in local newspapers or from their websites and are not always acknowledged in the same way as this article acknowledges the forum. So why despair? Incidentally this is my first post, so thanks to Paul B for accepting me and I look forward to contributing to the debates.

They evidently think members' comments are important enough to be circulated to a wider audience! Perhaps through doing so there will be some action taken to remedy the situation.

To be fair to the papers, there are a number of influential people posting on the forum and it's a good way for the journalists to get quotes without moving too far from the coffee machine. Remember there are no longer any newspaper offices in Dover so they would otherwise have to move their butts from Folkestone or Deal.

I have not read the item but unless it has got the facts wrong or distorted what has been said on this forum I can see nothing wrong.
It is lazy reporting but understandable when there is no local office.
If the fountain was working the fountain thread would not have existed and Sue would not be peeved.
As has already been said welcome Jim and I agree with you.

welcome jim
with regards to the fountain i no longer read the locals so have no idea of there content.
if posters dont wish to see some of there comments end up in the local press they should be careful what they post.
as has been said it is an open forum
and who are these influencial people lol

Keith, according to the article DDC thinks the fountain is unsafe, but only when there's something worth watching on the big screen, as when this bunch of raving lunatics settled down to watch the ballet -

they do come across as a surly bunch, wouldn't bet against one of them lobbing fairy liquid into our beloved fountain.

They had all the pipes off on Tuesday afternoon when I was down there poking things down them. Ready for the grand opening I suppose.

Fairy liquid in a fountain is not a problem if you dose it in advance with a defoaming liquid such as that used in carpet cleaning machines.

so why the the big issue over detergents being put in the fountain?
i was told a few years back by a councillor now retired that it cost the council a small fortune to clear out.

A bar of plain soap would probably do the job for a few pence.
