Unfortunately the Mayoralty locally seems to be some sort of 'Buggin's turn' rather than actually appointing a figurehead with vision to be pro-active and act as an ambassador for Dover (or Deal).
Whilst both of the most recent Mayors in Dover and Deal have been 'good' Mayors, considering that the minimum requirement is to be able to put together a reasonably coherent speech, ideally grammatically correct, and eat a banquet without chewing with one's mouth open or dribbling soup down your dress shirt, one has not got to go far back on either council to find unsuitable incumbents!
Perhaps this merely reflects the low standard of some of the councilors we have voted for?
Even worse is the fact that some of them embarrass us as Mayor for more than one year!
