From the BBC:
Coastal resorts given £10m boost
Three English coastal resorts are to get a share of a £10m grant to increase and update their tourist attractions.
Blackpool is to be given £4m to build a 22,000-seater outdoor arena on the seafront to showcase cultural events, and redesign part of its promenade.
Nearly £4m will be spent improving Dover Castle and the wartime tunnels beneath it, and developing a cable car.
Torbay will get about £2.2m of the government grant to develop two schemes in the English Riviera Geopark.
Ten new artist studios, a gallery space and a refurbished visitor centre will be created and access to Berry Head in Brixham will be improved.
The Bleriot Monument in Dover, which marks the first cross-channel flight, will also be refurbished with part of the money.
Communities Secretary Hazel Blears said: "English coastal towns can look forward to the summer trade that comes with more and more people rediscovering all that these places have to offer for a great holiday or weekend break.
"This [funding] will help these towns prosper further, as more attractions become available for both tourists and residents to enjoy."
The grant is part of the government's Sea Change programme which will see seaside resorts given a share of £15m each year between 2008 and 2011.
