To me, it seemed like the season only ever commenced as the league were terrified of legal action from the big boys, principally Notts County and Stockport County. In essence, clubs like Dover, Altrincham, Wealdstone etc were asked to risk bankruptcy for the benefit of the big clubs. Dover refused, rightly. Given this, it is mildly amusing that tin pot Sutton United got promoted and both Notts and Stockport remain with us
