Incompetence rather than disrespect?

Phil Hayes has been in contact with me and is devastated by the error. He has spoken to Mr woolford's daughter who was very understanding and accepted that a correction and full apology will be in next week's edition.

Appalling lapse, but not the first time. That's what comes of not having an office in the town you claim to represent. I expect at least a four-figure sum to be donated by DE to the Dover Society as a gesture of penitence.

I suspect that the error was mostly caused by only having 3 working days between editions instead the usual 5, many short cuts would have to be made to get the paper out on time, the usual checks and balances being lost.

Howard that is no defense there is no excuse, it is not as if the two surnames were at all similar.
The Dover Express all to often makes simple mistakes, either they do not proof read anymore or their reporters need to go back to school to improve their spelling and grammar.

Had instance where they couldn't even take info from an email and print correctly for a death, even after a phone conversation confirming everything. Shameful getting photo wrong that is a big fail on their part.

I think we need to remember that we are talking about a very young team starting out and making mistakes like we all did.
If they were seasoned journalists with 20 years experience behind them then that would be different, the spelling and grammar on their Facebook page is amended before the newspaper is printed.

Time to stop making excuses for them Howard, surely they are not all a bunch of youngsters fresh out of school having failed their English exams.
