In the Salem Baptist Church hallway is a memorial (removed from the former Salem church), which reads as follows:
"In sacred remembrance of George William STOKES and his wife Margaret Ingram STOKES (nee Whittaker)
members of this church who were martyred on July 9th at T'ai Yuan Fu, Shansi, China
in the 'Boxer' Rising of 1900
'Faithful unto death'. Rev.11.10."
(information kindly sent to me by Martyn Webster)
