No merger although there is talk of 4 councils joining together in the future to form a unitary authority. Dover and Shepway have been sharing some services for a few years now as a cost cutting exercise.

This could be a good move if they can work with each other ,but some times you will find one side wants more then its half of the cake.

From what I can remember it would be Canterbury, Thanet, Dover and Shepway joining forces. Not a great idea in my view as Canterbury would take precedence in most things.

Then perhaps in 10 years' time, Dover would be as prosperous as Canterbury.

Can't see it myself, Canterbury is all powerful now and has a massive new development in the pipeline that will greatly expand the population.

Canterbury has the advantage of having the cathedral right in the city centre to draw the tourists in.
Staff at the castle are often asked by US tourists why it was built so far from the railway station and on top of a steep hill, so there's your answer - move the castle to DTIZ and the town will prosper.

They have three very good Park and Ride systems ,at least you can walk without the fear of being knocked down..Yes the cliffs are lovely but you need a car.

Don't know how true this is but I was told the other day that the round Dover tour bus was now dropping off/picking up passengers up the Langdon Cliffs.
