Just a quick update to let you know how we're doing. Our radio studios are now coming along and we are hoping to have an online stream on our website by the end of February. Depending on circumstances we maybe testing for a while before programming begins.
I have started getting ideas for programming and thought I would ask anyone reading this what they would like from an online community radio station. We will at first be on air for limited periods in the evenings and weekends (with a sustaining service at other times) and aim to increase programming over time.
So far we have decided our music policy will be from the 1950s - today with the same emphasis placed on unsigned/local acts as well known names - as we are a community station we want to put as much emphasis on local music as we can. We will like some other radio stations also be broadcasting album tracks to widen our music library (and as these can be as good as and sometimes better than those released!). We are also aiming to cover as wider genres and possible and would like to have a 1930/40s programme on a Sunday afternoon reflecting memories of Dover in wartime.
Other ideas include review shows, country shows, a news style and magazine programme but basically I am asking you what you would like from your community online radio station. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
By the way our next meeting is Monday 24th January 7pm at the Phoenix Club, Crabble Road, Dover (so please come along and see whats happening!). We also hope to have a stand at this years Film Festival.
If anyone wishes to come down and get involved as presenters, editors, office staff, promotions people etc, etc I am sure we can find a role for you and we would be really happy to hear from you.
PS if anyone has any radio equipment which works they wish to dispose of (e.g. microphones, headphones, seperate CD players, mixing desks, etc) we would be happy to take them of you if you wished to donate them. Also if anyone has any CD's they wish to dispose of fitting the eras/genres above please do let us know as we would gladly like them for our record library.
