Peter, my apologies if I sounded flip it was not my intent. And I fully appreciate Sheli's explanation however there are a couple of points that I feel I must add.

Whatever the "official" reason DCAL was set up the underlying cause was a conflict of personalities I'm afraid. This I only note as the Child protection policies and insurance were as far as I am aware fully up to spec. As my husband was a member of the founding committee of DCAL (and I joined a very short time later for a little while) I feel fairly confident in putting this opinion forward.

There has never been any slanging match on the side of DCA as far as I'm aware, after the conflict of personalities Louise Scott took over Chairmanship of DCA and has never had an unkind word to say about anyone regarding anything, the rest of her committee have followed suit.

Dover Carnival Association started the Dickens Festival at the same time as DCAL took over the summer carnival as that was the time that DCA lost the support of the town I'm very sorry to say. In the following years DCA has done it's best to support Dover at events across the South East and outside of Dover is well respected (as I know is DTC).

As for my comment above regarding lack of town support, I didn't mention the council Peter but as you have noticed they do seem to prefer to support one court over the other which I do think is unfair and see no reason for. My personal view is that the council should support either both or neither but that is for the Mayor and Town Clerk to decide.
